About this painting

A single cross-section of a tree trunk sits in the middle of a plain cream canvas, its growth rings traced in a web of fine dark cracks inside a ragged black rim of bark.

The slice is not a tidy circle: it swells to the right and folds inward at the lower left, closer to a real log than a diagram. The cracks gather densely around the dark heart and thin out across the pale gold and grey outer rings, with a faint ochre warmth on the right. Nothing else is painted, so all the detail lives inside that one irregular shape.
