About this painting

Five orange and red koi glide through deep navy water, their bodies broken into the same short, blocky strokes as the ripples around them.

The surface is built from thick dabs of paint laid side by side like stacked tiles, wavering in rows so the water seems to shimmer. A patch of pale blue, white and yellow light opens in the centre while the edges sink to near-black. The fish are only half visible, curving in and out of the strokes, and they flicker in orange, scarlet and yellow against the cold blue.

IA#016 is an original impressionist animal painting showing orange koi swimming in deep blue water, hand-painted in acrylic on canvas with a heavily textured impasto surface. It is painted to order in any size; the 14 standard sizes run from 24×20 in (61×51 cm) to 80×60 in (203×153 cm). Painting takes about 10 days and delivery 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS; the minimum order is one piece.

Where it works

Koi make obvious sense in sushi bars, Asian restaurants and hotel dining rooms, but the deep navy also gives the canvas weight on a long wall behind a banquette or a reception counter. On white or pale stone walls the dark field holds its own from the far end of a room. Black lacquer, smoked oak, slate and bronze suit it; keep nearby fabrics navy, rust or charcoal so the fish stay the only bright note.

Specified for restaurant & bar, spa & wellness, gallery & retail and dining room; it reads as bold and dramatic.

These share its palette, format and surface, so the three hang as a set: a run along a hotel corridor, a pair either side of a bed with this one between, or one per suite on the same floor.

Sizes & scale

Width × height. These are the sizes ordered most often; any other size is painted to order, with the composition redrawn to your proportions. A common rule: art about two-thirds the width of the sofa, bed or console beneath it.

What affects the price

Trade prices for IA#016 are quoted per order rather than listed, and come back within one business day. Four things set the figure:

Size
Price follows canvas area. The standard sizes run from 24×20 in to 80×60 in; any other size is quoted the same way.
Finish
Rolled canvas is the lowest-cost way to buy and ship. Stretched, ready to hang, costs more, and a frame costs the most.
Surface
Thick impasto uses more paint and takes longer to dry than flat brushwork, which the price reflects.
Quantity
Volume pricing starts at 10 pieces: the same design for every room on a floor, each one painted individually, or a mix of works.

Shipping is not included in the price; its cost is confirmed with you before the piece ships. Ask for a price on IA#016 on WhatsApp →

Questions buyers ask

Can IA#016 hang in portrait as well as landscape?

Yes. The koi are seen from above, so the water has no horizon and no fixed top. Turned upright, the rows of strokes run vertically and the fish seem to swim up the canvas, which suits a double-height wall or a stairwell where a landscape hang would look squat.

How does the impasto look up close compared with from a distance?

Close up, each stroke is a separate raised dab with visible ridges, and the colours sit side by side rather than blending. Step back a few metres and the dabs merge into rippling water with the koi swimming through it. Light from one side makes the ridges glint like sun on a pond.

Is IA#016 a print or an original painting?

An original. IA#016 is hand-painted in acrylic on canvas when you order it — nothing in the iHomeArt catalogue is printed or held in stock. The photographs show an earlier canvas of the same design, so the brushwork on yours will differ slightly.

Will several copies of IA#016 match across rooms?

They read as a set: every copy is painted from the same composition and palette. Each one is still painted by hand, so the brushwork differs slightly from piece to piece. Progress photos at each stage let you compare them before the next stage starts, and volume pricing begins at 10 pieces.

Will the colours match what I see on screen?

Screens shift colour, so the photographs here are a guide rather than a swatch. You see progress photos or video at each stage and approve a photograph of the finished canvas before it leaves. Moving the palette towards your scheme is normal: send a photo of a paint chip, a fabric swatch or the room on WhatsApp.
