Orange bloom over white crackle canvas painting

An orange flower bursts open over the top half of the picture, its petals laid in broad, square-ended strokes that run from tangerine through peach to burnt rust at the tips. Below it the picture splits in two: on the left a panel of white crackle with dark lines in its fissures, on the right a smoky grey block scored with white vertical drips and flicks of white splatter.

A smaller bud on a wiry black stem leans in from the right edge, and a dry black sprig scratches across the pale top left. Soft, loose petals against hard, mineral surfaces is what makes it work.
