About this painting

A white waterfall drops through a narrow gap between two golden peaks into a pale jade pool, under a sky of rose, lilac and hazy lemon. The sun is a soft blur just left of centre near the top, and its light catches the ochre ridges, built up in thick, dragged paint that stands proud of the smoother sky.

The right-hand cliff turns plum and violet, flecked with crimson and orange, and the foreground rocks sink to blue-violet. Vertical strokes beside the falls blur into pink and yellow veils, like lit spray, so the water stays the brightest white on the canvas.
