About this painting

Butter yellow washes across most of a square canvas, while feathery grey and white strokes rise up the left side like tall grasses. In the top right corner a dark grey fan of strokes answers them, and thin drips of deeper gold run down through the middle third.

A few scratched dark lines, one shaped like a bracket near the top, and a scatter of gold flecks give the soft field something to hold onto. The paint is thickest in the grey strokes, where brush and knife leave raised feathering, and thinnest in the yellow, which blends into cream at the centre.
