Ten or so narrow figures stand packed together, each with a small dark cap of hair, a white face turned in profile and arms so long their hands hang almost to the bottom edge. Their coats are long columns of black, charcoal and grey, some speckled with a fine mottled pattern and some nearly solid, and slivers of white canvas show between them.

The group runs from just below the top to the bottom edge, leaving a band of empty white above the heads and down both sides. The hands, drawn with a few thin lines and all at one height, give the crowd a quiet, waiting stillness.
