About this painting

A soft olive-sage shape, rounded like a pebble, floats just right of centre on an aged cream ground, hemmed in by two blots of near-black. Thin black lines loop around it in fast, uneven circles, starting from a long stroke that drops in from the top left, while touches of rust red, umber and fine speckle gather at its edges and brown washes drip from the lower right.

The upper third is left almost bare, a mottled cream with faint vertical scratches, so the canvas breathes above the activity.
