About this painting

Five white blossoms cluster at the heart of a spray of gold-painted leaves, laid on so thickly that each petal stands out from the canvas with a raised, cupped edge. Their centres are dotted with gold, the leaves fan upward on fine stems, and loose gold flecks drift into the air around them.

Two small flicks of crimson at the right are the only strong colour. Thin bronze stems fall to the bottom of the canvas through a ground that shifts from cool grey at the top to warm ochre at the lower left, laid in dragged vertical strokes that leave streaks and scraped edges.
