About this painting

A dense, mottled field of teal, emerald and deep sea blue covers the canvas edge to edge, with a scatter of small gold flakes drifting down its left side. There is no horizon and no single shape, only darker pools and lighter clouds of green that seem to lie at different depths.

The surface is crusted and pitted, close to weathered copper or a reef seen through clear water, with the lighter turquoise lying over the darker blues like foam. The gold squares stay in the left third, leaving the rest of the field to colour and texture alone, broken only by a few tiny white highlights.

Does AA#320 read as blue or green on the wall?

Both, depending on the light. In daylight the turquoise and emerald dominate and it looks green; under warmer evening light the deep blue pools come forward. Fabrics that bridge the two, such as peacock, petrol or bottle green, sit better beside it than a pure navy or a leaf green.

Where does the gold appear on AA#320?
