About this painting

A broad scarlet river enters at the top of the canvas and runs out at the lower right, with a thin streak of electric cobalt keeping pace beside it through the dark. Everything else is a deep plum ground, nearly black, with a sheen like wet stone.

Bright yellow arrives at two opposite corners: fine lace-like marbling in the upper right, and a looser swirl with small cells in the lower left, so the colour balances across the diagonal. Where the scarlet meets the plum, its edges break into burgundy curls. The plum areas are glossy enough to catch reflections, so they never look flat.

Questions buyers ask

What does the single blue line add to AA#005?

A cool counterweight. Without the cobalt vein running parallel to the scarlet, the canvas would be all red, yellow and near-black; the blue gives a second, narrower line to follow and connects the painting to navy or blue interiors.

Will AA#005 look heavy on a white wall?

Somewhat. About two thirds of the surface is deep plum, so on white it becomes a strong dark block with crisp edges. On a mid-toned or dark wall those edges dissolve and the scarlet and yellow seem to float, which is usually the better effect.

Is AA#005 a print or an original painting?
