About this painting

A dark navy stain runs down the middle of a pale yellow and grey-blue veil, and fine black threads of paint whip out from it across the canvas.

The washes are dragged vertically in soft, overlapping bands, so the ground looks like weathered paper or a fogged window. Around the stain the ink work is quick: dotted splatter, one long thread arcing up to the right, another curling towards the lower right corner. Cream opens up on the right side and a patch of ochre settles into the lower left. The paint is thin and flat throughout; the energy is all in the line.
