About this painting

A loose ring of slate navy, rust and gold washes circles a pale cream centre, the colours bleeding into one another like ink dropped on wet paper.

Gold strokes follow the left side of the circle in long arcs, and fine gold flicks and dark specks are thrown across it. A cloudy band of blue-grey crosses the lower middle, pooling into its deepest navy, while rust brown gathers at the bottom left. The paint is thin and fluid throughout, so the cream ground glows through every layer, and the open top corners keep the circle from feeling boxed in.

Is the circle in AA#033 meant to be a moon?

Not specifically. The ring is abstract, but its round form and pale centre can be read as a moon or an eclipse, and circles in general are often read as wholeness and continuity. It works on a wall without needing that story to be told.

Could AA#033 be painted with blush pink instead of the rust?
