About this painting

A cream haze glows in the upper middle of a dark canvas, as if light were breaking through smoke, while umber and near-black shadow crowds in from every edge. The left side is darkest, almost black, and the right edge breaks into torn patches of brown.

The paint changes character as it descends. The glow above is soft and scumbled, laced with small white scratches, but the lower third is crusted with knife-laid paint, ochre grit and a few flecks of rust in the bottom left corner. It is the warmer, earthier take on a dark-to-light theme, closer to tobacco and old timber than to charcoal.

WA#243 is an original wabi-sabi painting showing dark brown edges fading into a cream misty glow, hand-painted in acrylic on canvas with a heavily textured impasto surface. It is painted to order in any size; the 14 standard sizes run from 20×24 in (51×61 cm) to 60×80 in (153×203 cm). Painting takes about 10 days and delivery 5–7 days by DHL, FedEx or UPS; the minimum order is one piece.

Where it works

Brown-black edges sit naturally above walnut, smoked oak or a dark leather banquette, and the cream centre repeats any oatmeal, clay or boucle nearby. Restaurant walls beside tables suit it, since the crusted lower edge rewards a near look. In a bedroom the wall facing the bed works better than the headboard wall, so the glow is what you see when the lamps go down. Warm low light deepens the browns; cold daylight turns them muddy.

Specified for restaurant & bar, guest room & suite, bedroom and living room; it reads as moody and cozy & warm.

Sizes & scale

Width × height. These are the sizes ordered most often; any other size is painted to order, with the composition redrawn to your proportions. A common rule: art about two-thirds the width of the sofa, bed or console beneath it.

What affects the price

Trade prices for WA#243 are quoted per order rather than listed, and come back within one business day. Four things set the figure:

Size
Price follows canvas area. The standard sizes run from 20×24 in to 60×80 in; any other size is quoted the same way.
Finish
Rolled canvas is the lowest-cost way to buy and ship. Stretched, ready to hang, costs more, and a frame costs the most.
Surface
Thick impasto uses more paint and takes longer to dry than flat brushwork, which the price reflects.
Quantity
Volume pricing starts at 10 pieces: the same design for every room on a floor, each one painted individually, or a mix of works.

Shipping is not included in the price; its cost is confirmed with you before the piece ships. Ask for a price on WA#243 on WhatsApp →

Questions buyers ask

How is WA#243 different from the charcoal WA#253?

WA#243 is browner and rougher. Its shadows are tobacco and umber rather than blue-black, the mist is cloudier and off-centre, and the lower edge is crusted with ochre grit and rust flecks. WA#253 is cooler, nearly symmetrical and finely sanded, a cleaner column of light.

What do the rust flecks at the bottom of WA#243 add?

A little heat at the base of a dark picture. The rust and ochre specks low on the left echo terracotta, cognac leather or copper in the room, so there is a thread to pick up in cushions or ceramics without bringing a new colour into the scheme.

Is WA#243 a print or an original painting?

An original. WA#243 is hand-painted in acrylic on canvas when you order it — nothing in the iHomeArt catalogue is printed or held in stock. The photographs show an earlier canvas of the same design, so the brushwork on yours will differ slightly.

Will several copies of WA#243 match across rooms?

They read as a set: every copy is painted from the same composition and palette. Each one is still painted by hand, so the brushwork differs slightly from piece to piece. Progress photos at each stage let you compare them before the next stage starts, and volume pricing begins at 10 pieces.

Will the colours match what I see on screen?

Screens shift colour, so the photographs here are a guide rather than a swatch. You see progress photos or video at each stage and approve a photograph of the finished canvas before it leaves. Moving the palette towards your scheme is normal: send a photo of a paint chip, a fabric swatch or the room on WhatsApp.
