A flat rectangle of warm, egg-yolk yellow fills almost the entire canvas, stopped on the right by a narrow upright band of black and surrounded by a broad white margin.

Nothing is blended and nothing is gestural. The black strip is about a sixth of the yellow's width and runs its full height, so the weight of the picture sits to one side without tipping it over.
