White pink and orange blooms on blue-gray impasto canvas art

Three big blooms open across a blue-grey ground, white at the centre, rose-pink above it to the left and orange to its right, each petal built up in thick sculpted paint that curls and lifts like the real thing. Smaller buds, pink along the top and orange at the lower edge, fill out the bunch.

Behind them the ground is broken into short flecks that look like petals blown loose. The relief is deepest in the three main blooms, where the knife has folded paint into ridges, and it thins toward the corners, so the middle advances and the edges fall back.
