Hotel art in Spain, from Madrid's palaces to the island resorts
iHomeArt paints hotel art for Spain by hand and to order: original canvases for hotels, resorts, restaurants and bars in Madrid, Barcelona, on the Costa del Sol and in the Balearic and Canary Islands, sized to each wall and painted in your scheme's palette. This guide answers what Spanish hoteliers and their designers ask first: what the art should say about the place, whether every room needs its own painting, and how to have it on the walls before the season opens.

Palace, design hotel or island resort: what should hotel art in Spain say about the place?
Let the building and the region set the palette: Spanish painting in dialogue with the museums for a Madrid palace, one strong abstract per room in a Barcelona design hotel, warm earth on the Costa del Sol, and pale stone, wood and sea light in the islands.
Spain's hotels do not share one look, and a scheme that suits a Madrid palace can feel heavy in an Ibiza resort. Madrid's grand hotels talk to the museums: the Mandarin Oriental Ritz built its art programme around the Prado and its neighbours, and Four Seasons Madrid opened its Royal Suite to the painter Secundino Hernández during ARCO 2025. Barcelona's design hotels lean to one clear voice per room: at Sir Victor, an abstract against neutral walls.
On the Costa del Sol the reopened resorts run warm: Kimpton Los Monteros pairs terracotta tiles and geometric patterns with vivid accents. The islands go paler. Nômade Temple in Portinatx, Ibiza is built in white stone, sabina wood and handmade terracotta, and Six Senses Ibiza invited an artist in residence in spring 2026 to make new pieces from the island. The Canary Islands, which drew the largest share of Spain's hotel investment in 2025, suit the same light palette. Take the colours from the building's materials, then choose the subject; the Spanish styles guide covers subjects.

Does a Spanish hotel need an art consultant, or can the interior designer specify the art?
Bring in a curator when the hotel is building a collection of named artists; when the art belongs to the scheme, from the guest rooms to the restaurant, the interior designer usually specifies it and a studio paints it to the schedule.
Spain has both models. The Madrid palace hotels collect: Rosewood Villa Magna shows more than 380 works chosen by an art consultancy, and Four Seasons Madrid holds about 1,500 pieces, reproductions included, built around a four-year competition across the fine-arts schools of Madrid, Málaga and Seville. On the coast the design studio leads: Kimpton Los Monteros credits El Equipo Creativo with its interiors and Cristina Carulla Studio with its guest rooms, and names no art consultant.
Most hotels need a little of each. A few collected works by Spanish artists, bought through a gallery, give the lobby and the bar their story; the hundreds of walls behind them are lines on the designer's schedule. That is where iHomeArt fits: we paint to the designer's drawings, sizes and colours, or suggest catalogue designs for each line. Buying from a specification? See art quoted line by line from the spec.
An original in every guest room, or one design for each room type?
Both are hand-painted with us: a boutique hotel can give each room its own variation within one family, while a resort with hundreds of keys can repeat one design per room type and keep the variations for the suites.
Spanish hotels have done it both ways. Sir Victor in Barcelona opened in 2019 with an original abstract by the Barcelona painter Bernat Daviu in each of its 91 rooms, while Four Seasons Madrid chose 75 designs from more than 500 submissions and reproduced them across its room and suite types. The room counts now opening explain the choice: Kimpton Los Monteros has 195 rooms, 60 of them suites, Don Carlos Marbella 284 and Bless Ibiza 461.
For a hotel of a few dozen rooms, a series painted in one hand, with a variation in every room, gives each guest a painting of their own and still reads as one hotel. For several hundred keys, choose a design for each room type, have it painted again for every room of that type, and vary the suites. How large should hotel art in Spain be in the lobby, corridors and spa?
Larger than a showroom suggests: 200–250 cm on the long side for a lobby wall seen from the door, matching verticals along the corridors, and quiet pieces of 90–150 cm in the spa.
Spanish designers hang big in public rooms. Casa Decor 2025, Madrid's annual show of designer interiors, hung a 110 × 195 cm canvas by Pablo Manso in its lobby space, and Rosewood Villa Magna greets guests with an embroidered piece at reception and a stained-glass wall behind its spiral staircase. A lobby is read from the entrance across a tall volume, so a painting that looks generous in a shop looks small there: aim for 200–250 cm (79–98 in) on the long side, or a stacked pair on a tall wall.
Corridors and lift lobbies take a run of same-format verticals of 60 × 90 to 90 × 120 cm (24 × 35 to 35 × 47 in), varied within one family so each floor has its own. Spas want quieter work: texture in off-white, sand and sage, to sit with the natural materials the new resorts use. Every size is in the Spain size guide; for long runs, see hotel corridor artwork.
Palace, convent or Parador: what hangs in a historic Spanish hotel?
Work that answers the building: landscapes and still lifes in an impressionist hand, hand-painted reproductions of masters long out of copyright, or a painting of the building itself, hung on the flat walls between arches, beams and mouldings.
Many Spanish hotels live in old buildings, and more are coming: a Kimpton with 82 rooms is planned in the Convento de San Agustín in Andalusia for 2028. Barcelona's Grand Hotel Central was refurbished in the Catalan Noucentisme style, honouring its founder, the art patron Francesc Cambó, and Four Seasons opened at Formentor in a restored estate 'long known as a retreat for writers and artists'.
In rooms like these the architecture leads. Size each painting to its pier or panel rather than to the whole room, and let gold or wood frames answer the joinery. Three routes suit a historic hotel: Spanish landscapes and still lifes; hand-painted reproductions of masters whose work is long out of copyright, from Velázquez to Sorolla; or a painting made from your own image, an old photograph of the building, its garden or its crest, kept exclusive to the hotel if you ask before we start. See paintings from your own image.
What restaurant wall art suits a Spanish restaurant, tapas bar or hotel bar?
One painting that carries the room, sized to the banquette, the back of the bar or the wall facing the door, does more than a dozen small frames, and it can outlast a menu change.
Restaurants and bars are the larger half of Spanish hospitality, turning over more than twice as much as hotels and other accommodation. Hotels give their bars and restaurants the same care as their rooms: Kimpton Los Monteros opened with four food and drink venues, and Soho House's Pool House in Barcelona hangs art through its parlour, lounge, stairwell and snug.
Spend where guests look: the long wall above the banquette, the wall facing the entrance and the back of the bar. One canvas of 150–250 cm (59–98 in), or a run of matching panels along the banquette, sets the mood; on a tiled wall, hang it above the tiles. A tapas bar can take bold colour, a dining room something quieter. For a group, we keep the code of every piece on file, so the second and the tenth site can hang the same series. See restaurant wall art for groups and art for restaurants and bars.
Hotel residences and apartments on the Costa del Sol: does each unit need its own set?
Units let through the hotel do: give each unit type its own set of paintings in the hotel's palette, so a guest in an apartment gets the same hotel as a guest in a room.
Málaga province holds around 900 of the more than 1,200 branded residences planned in Spain by 2027, and several of the new Marbella hotels come with apartments attached. Four Seasons Marbella plans about 120 keys alongside 166 residences, 30 of them hotel residences; the Las Dunas Club project pairs 186 rooms with 89 tourist apartments and 115 homes.
Private residences are their owners' choice (see villas and homes in Spain). The units the hotel lets need the discipline of a room schedule: a set for each unit type, for example the entrance, the living room, the dining wall and each bedroom, painted in the hotel's palette and finished stretched or framed, ready to hang. Order the first phase, approve it, and later phases follow from the same designs, even if deliveries stretch over years. See one art pack per unit type.
Opening before the season: how does a Spanish hotel or restaurant work with iHomeArt?
Settle the art with the designer's schedule while the fit-out is under way, approve one sample, then release the rest by floor or room type; for a spring opening, that means deciding in winter.
Recent resort openings have landed before the summer: Fairmont Hacienda Costa del Sol opened on 20 February 2025, Kimpton Los Monteros eight days later, and Bless Ibiza and Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra in June 2026. Work back from your date. Send the designer's schedule or a photo of each wall type; your quote, priced for your sizes and finishes, usually arrives within one business day. Order one room's painting first as a sample, approve it, then release the rest by floor or by room type.
You approve every stage from photographs, and the next starts only after your yes. A large order may go by air or sea freight, on the route we find best for the mainland or the islands, with the shipping cost confirmed before dispatch. More in the Spain wall art guide.
Each canvas can travel stretched and ready to hang, framed, or rolled; a rolled canvas, the lightest and most economical way to send a large painting, arrives without stretcher bars, and any local framer can stretch it for you.
Photos to whoever signs off
Stage photographs go straight to the designer, the owner or the FF&E buyer, whoever approves the art.
Ready for the installers
Every canvas is labelled with its room or position and packed with a list, so the hotel can hang floor by floor.
Hotel art in Spain FAQs
Can you deliver hotel art to Mallorca, Ibiza or the Canary Islands?
Yes. Smaller orders travel by DHL, FedEx or UPS express, about 5–7 days once painted, to Mallorca, Ibiza, Tenerife, Gran Canaria or anywhere on the mainland. A large hotel order may go by air or sea freight instead; we choose the best route for the property and confirm the shipping cost before anything leaves.
Can the paintings match our tiles, fabrics or the designer's mood board?
Yes. Send photographs of the fabric, tile, stone or paint taken in daylight, with the mood board if there is one, and the palette is mixed to them. You see the colours on the canvas in the stage photographs and approve them before the next stage starts, so the terracotta or the sea blue matches the room it hangs in.
Will a canvas cope with sea air and sun in a beach hotel?
Indoors and with sensible placement, yes. Hang canvases out of direct sun and away from open terraces, pool spray and air-conditioning outlets, and use blinds on west-facing glass. Acrylic on canvas is our standard and oil is available on request. For cleaning, a dry cloth is all a canvas needs; never use sprays.
Can a Spanish hotel keep a design to itself?
Yes. Ask before we start and a design can be kept exclusive to your hotel or group. We can also design a piece for the project, to its budget and needs, or paint from your own image: the view from the terrace, an old photograph of the building or the hotel's crest, as long as you own it or have permission to use it.
Is one painting for a small restaurant or casa rural too small an order?
Not at all. The minimum order is one piece, so a single canvas for a tapas bar, a café or a casa rural is welcome, and it can double as a sample if more follow. Volume pricing starts at ten pieces, which a hotel, a restaurant group or a block of apartments reaches quickly.
What happens if a painting arrives damaged at the hotel?
Damage in transit is rare, under 0.01% of pieces. If it happens, send us photographs on arrival; we take it up with the carrier and work out a solution with you, such as a replacement or a refund. Because every piece is painted to order and you approve the final photograph before dispatch, finished pieces are not returnable.
