About this painting

Wide cream strokes cross and overlap like ribbons thrown down at angles, while the whole surface shifts from coral orange at the top to hot pink at the bottom.

Each sweep was made in one pass with a very broad brush, and the bristles left fine parallel grooves along its length. A black, calligraphic gesture threads across the lower middle and gathers into dark blobs at the left edge, and a few red spatters sit near the top. The cream carries the light; the black supplies the weight.
