About this painting

A dark teal channel runs diagonally across the square from lower left to upper right, squeezed between two drifts of white and pale grey that look like cloud seen from above. Where blue meets white, the edges turn violet and periwinkle, and the white breaks over the teal in uneven, foam-like rims.

Gold is used sparingly: a broken line crossing the middle, a curling flourish near the right edge and a spray of tiny flecks near the top. The navy deepens toward the upper right corner, so the canvas has a heavy, darker side and a lighter one at lower right.
