About this painting

A flat wedge of lemon yellow runs down the left side, and against it the rest of the canvas churns with inky indigo, slate blue and cream. The boundary is ragged and full of incident: blue fingers reach into the yellow, and small yellow streaks are dragged into the marbling.

The currents run broadly from upper left to lower right, with fine cream veins tracing each swirl. Near the bottom right a dark indigo eddy forms a rounded hollow, the one heavy, quiet spot on the busy blue side.

Is the yellow in AA#007 marbled like the rest?

No, it is kept almost flat: a solid lemon field with only a few blue and cream intrusions along its edge. The contrast between still yellow and moving blue is the main idea of the painting, so the yellow area stays clean in every version.

Does it matter where AA#007 hangs relative to a window?

It helps to plan it. The lemon field is on the left, so hung with a window to its left, the yellow edge sits nearest the daylight and glows. With the light coming from the right instead, the indigo marbling is lit first and the yellow side stays in softer shade.
