A wide black band falls diagonally across a field of white plaster, entering at the top right, with a raised white crest along its left bank and a gritty gold seam along its right. On either side the plaster is worked into ridges and swept furrows, dusted with grey and black speckle that thickens close to the band.

The relief is real: the white crest stands proud of the surface like the lip of a breaking wave, and the gold is granular, catching light in points. The black itself is brushed in long strokes that follow the diagonal, so even the darkest area carries a faint grain.
