About this painting

Gold veins cut through pale cream stone on a long diagonal, entering at the top right corner and spilling out at the bottom left, like a slab of polished marble sliced at an angle. Along several veins the gold is built up into a granular crust, heaviest in the band across the upper left and in a cluster of raised nuggets on the right.

Between the crusts the stone is smooth, layered in cream, ivory and a faint blush-lilac grey and threaded with hairline white lines. Both top corners open into a sparkling taupe field, which frames the vein pattern and stops the warmth from turning into plain beige.

How does the raised gold on AA#444 look from the side?

Side light shows the veins as real ridges: the granular crusts along the upper left band and the right edge catch light on their tops and drop small shadows beneath. Seen straight on under even light, the same veins read more as smooth gold lines on cream stone.

Will AA#444 clash with real marble in the same room?
