About this painting

Two crusted corners hold a river of white and pale grey marble between them as it runs diagonally across the canvas.

At the top left the surface turns dark umber and gold, pitted like weathered rock; at the lower right it is warmer, bronze and caramel breaking into cream. Fine gold seams trace the edges of the white band, and a smoky grey vein runs alongside it. The crusts are raised and cellular while the white flow is smooth, so the canvas moves from rough to calm and back again.
