A broad sweep of gold falls from the top left corner and spreads into a wide, folded pool across the middle of the canvas, as though it had been poured and left to settle on dark water.

To its right the ground turns midnight navy, dotted with gold drops and crossed by fine gold threads that wander toward the edge. Lower down the colour deepens into teal and inky blue, while black lace-like veins creep over pale blue and white at the bottom left. The finish is smooth; all the movement comes from colours bleeding into one another, not from built-up paint.
