About this painting

Clear lilac-pink covers the whole canvas in broad, flat trowel strokes, and wherever one pass overlaps the next its edge lifts into a small ridge that catches light. Paler, almost white patches open up left of centre, and a crack-like seam wanders down the middle where two sweeps met.

In the upper left a few scratched hatch marks break the smoothness. The paint shifts between glassy planes and crusted, pitted areas, so one colour shows dozens of small changes in tone. The interest is all in the surface.

Is TA#033 closer to pink or lilac?

Pink, with a cool lilac undertone. It is clearer and brighter than blush or dusty rose, so it looks sweet against white and calmer against grey. Under daylight it reads as true pink; under cool LED light it drifts toward lilac, and warm lamps make it rosier.

Does TA#033 have a top and a bottom?

Not really. With no image to keep upright, it reads correctly either way round. Hung tall, the trowel bands run across like stacked layers of paint; turned on its side, the same bands become upright strokes. The texture and colour behave identically in both positions.
